Sunday September 3, 2017 - Jasper

Well the first part of the journey was interesting to say the least.  We left Calgary around 11am, made it to Canmore and stopped to eat only to discover we forgot out wallets.  So back to Calgary we went.  Driving back to Calgary the traffic looked horrendous going out of town so we decided to go another route.  We ended up getting into Jasper at about 7pm.  Every place we drove past had a not vacancy sign out.  Thank goodness I had previously booked a room weeks ago!  We pulled up to the Tonquin Inn and registered.  Talk about pricey!  The desk clerk said that they've been booked solid all summer.  Every place has.  Guess they can afford to charge whatever they want then.

We walked down to the The Iron Grill in the Best Western.  It was pretty close however it was raining.  Their artichoke dip was amazing but their fish and chips left a lot to be desired.  We walked back in the pouring rain.

We ended up checking out at about 10:30.  We ate breakfast at A&W and then filled up on gas.  We punched in Bowron Lakes into Google Maps and set out.  About 4 and half hours outside of Bowron Google Maps had us turn onto a dirt road.  For 14km.  Well that was a HUGE mistake.  The dirt road kept getting smaller and smaller until eventually grass was growing VERY tall down the middle.  It was more like a carriage path that a road...It got so bad it was unpassable due to being washed out.  We had to turn around.  We had traveled 2 and half hours on it and now had to back tracked.  Eventually we made it back to the highway and continued onto Quesnel.  We stopped for dinner and then onwards to Bowron.  After Quesnel there was absolutely no cell service.  We arrived at Becker's Lodge about 8:30 however their office closes at 6.  LOL But they had a sign that said our cabin was open and we can square up in the morning.  Off we went to Kibbee cabin - bunk beds!!

The grand adventure begins!
